Frequently Asked Questions

What does Houston Customs Broker do?

We are a licensed customs brokerage and door-to-door import service. We handle sourcing and inspection in China, ocean and air freight, customs clearance, duties, and delivery.

Who is your service for?

Businesses that import on a regular schedule: brands, Amazon sellers, e-commerce stores, wholesalers, retailers, and manufacturers.

Do you handle personal shipments?

No. We handle commercial imports only, so we are not a fit for personal belongings, household goods, artwork, household moves, or single small parcels. Customs clearance on its own is welcome, including cargo already at the port.

How long does shipping from China to Houston take?

Ocean freight is about 30 to 40 days all-water, or roughly 3 to 4 weeks via a West Coast port and rail. Air freight is usually 5 to 8 days door to door, and express 3 to 6 days.

What is DDP?

Delivered Duty Paid: one price covering freight, duties, taxes, customs clearance, and delivery.

Do I need an importer of record number?

Yes. Usually your IRS EIN, registered with CBP. We set it up with you before the first shipment.

Do I need a customs bond?

Yes, for formal entries and ocean ISF filings. A continuous bond usually suits businesses that import several times a year.

What is the ISF?

The Importer Security Filing for ocean cargo, due at least 24 hours before loading at the foreign port. We file it on every ocean shipment we manage.

Can you ship to Amazon FBA?

Yes. We prep cartons in China to Amazon requirements and deliver to fulfillment centers in Texas.

Do you ship from countries other than China?

Yes. We also move freight from Europe, the UK, the UAE, Turkey, India, Japan, and Mexico when the volume is there.

What do you need for a quote?

Origin, destination, product, quantity, weight, carton size or CBM, preferred shipping method, and how often you ship.

Can you clear cargo that is already at the port?

Yes. Customs clearance on its own is welcome, including cargo already at the port. We also manage exams and holds for the shipments we run from origin.

Ready to plan your next shipment?

Tell us what you import and how often. A licensed Houston customs broker gets back to you within one business day. Quotes are for businesses with recurring commercial shipments.
