How an import clears

Every commercial shipment needs an entry. For ocean freight that starts with the ISF, filed before the container is loaded overseas. When the cargo is on the water we file the entry in ACE, CBP reviews it, and in most cases the goods are released before or shortly after the vessel berths.

Within ten working days of release we file the entry summary and pay the duty, the merchandise processing fee, and for ocean freight the harbor maintenance fee. Shipments valued under $2,500 can often move on a simpler informal entry.

Why pre-filing matters

Late or incomplete entries are the most common cause of cargo sitting at the terminal. Because we handle the freight too, we have the invoice, packing list, and carton data before the goods leave China, and we fix gaps with the supplier while there is still time.

How it works

1. Documents at origin. We collect the invoice, packing list, and product details while the goods are still at the factory.
2. ISF and entry. ISF before loading, entry filed while the cargo is in transit.
3. Release. CBP release is matched to the terminal availability of your container.
4. Delivered and closed out. We deliver, file the entry summary, and send you the records.
